Tottenham have made Real Betis playmaker Giovani Lo Celso and Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele summer transfer targets.
Argentina international Lo Celso has an £88million release clause and the Spanish club are understood to be unwilling to sell him for below that amount.
The 23-year-old hails from Rosario, the town where Mauricio Pochettino made his name as a player with Newell's Old Boys, and Spurs have been tracking him for several months.
The Champions League finalists are unlikely to meet his release clause, which would more than double their record transfer fee, they could raise funds if Real Madrid target Christian Eriksen, who has a year remaining on his contract, leaves in the summer.
Lo Celso, who is due to compete in the Copa America this summer, has impressed on loan from Paris Saint-Germain this season, with Betis exercising an option to make the move permanent for £20m last month. He has scored 16 goals and added six assists in 45 appearances for the La Liga side.
Meanwhile, Spurs are also considering a bid for Lyon enforcer Ndombele, who has starred in Ligue 1 and the Champions League for Lyon.
They are likely to face competition from a host of top European clubs for the 22-year-old Frenchman, however. Leeds' youngster Jack Clarke and Fulham twins Ryan and Steven Sessegnon are also on Spurs' summer shortlist.
