Tottenham transfer situation explained by Jose Mourinho as Harry Kane suffered pre-season blow

Tottenham have made some progress during the summer transfer window but more must be done to compete higher up the Premier League table next term.

Spurs finished sixth in the Premier League and missed out on the top four for the first time in five seasons.

Here is the latest news on Tottenham in today's morning digest.

Tottenham fixture list

Now Jose Mourinho is looking to add to his squad after already securing deals for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.

Mourinho discusses deals

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has opened up on the reasoning for the signings of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.

Mourinho says he is thrilled with the deals for the duo and explained why.

"Joe is a good keeper with 75 caps for England and that says everything about him," he told CBS Sports.

"We know his potential, his experience and his desire to go back to...shall we say top clubs, which was a very important thing for his decision."

Speaking about the arrival of Hojbjerg, Mourinho added: "Pierre is a player we have followed. We have followed him for quite a long time and the fact he had just a year on his contract gave us a good position to negotiate for him with Southampton."

Kane blow

Tottenham will be without Harry Kane for the first part of pre-season training after the England captain was placed in quarantine.

Kane has been put in isolation after returning from a holiday in the Bahamas.

The striker is expected to return to training next week but it's not ideal preparation for Mourinho and Spurs.

Rose stance

Newcastle United have confirmed their stance on Danny Rose.

The Tottenham left-back spent time on loan at Newcastle last season. Rose's future remains in doubt but Newcastle have not given up hope of landing a deal.

Magpies' boss Steve Bruce has not ruled out signing Rose, explaining: "On Danny Rose, we will have a look to see what will happen in the next few weeks," he told the Newcastle Chronicle.

"As I said, we've got to box clever because of the situation we are all in."
