Tottenham transfer rumours: Pochettino 'holds key' to Harry Kane future, Man United options

With Tottenham yet to enter contract negotiations with Harry Kane's representatives after last summer's transfer saga, the rumour mill is set to start up again with the England captain's future top of the agenda ahead of the Qatar World Cup this winter.

Kane was most heavily linked to Manchester City last summer having reportedly submitted a transfer request, but it is the red half of Manchester who will likely be looking at the 28-year-old this summer due to one key reason.

This is what has been reported by the Daily Express, with United's uncertain managerial situation the key to any move for the Tottenham academy product.

It remains to be seen who will be managing United next season, but one name in the mix is former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino with the jury still out on Ralf Rangnick's reign as interim United boss.

The former Spurs boss Pochettino is reportedly yet to warm to live in Paris and is favourite to be next United boss after the Red Devils' struggles this season.

Kane was bought through in Pochettino's first season at White Hart Lane, scoring 21 Premier League goals in the 2014/15 season, his breakthrough year under the Argentine.

Pochettino's time together with Kane at Spurs saw the best of the striker, winning two Premier League Golden Boots (2015/16 & 2016/17) and reaching a Champions League final under the Argentine's management.

And with the success that Kane enjoyed alongside Pochettino at Spurs, it could be a perfect match with familiar England colleagues Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford also in the United attacking ranks.

Cristiano Ronaldo was signed instead of Kane last summer, but with the Portuguese star reportedly looking at his options this summer and Edinson Cavani on his way out of the club, a striker will be right at the top of the agenda for United.

According to ESPN, Kane could be available for £100m with his contract expiring in a year's time, but based on his match winning performance away at Man City at the weekend, he could be worth such a significant outlay.
