Tottenham transfer rumours: Door opened for Paulo Dybala, Borussia Dortmund battle for striker

Tottenham Hotspur continue their charge toward the Premier League title with a massive week upcoming. Games against Liverpool and Leicester City will further assess Spurs’ title credentials, which are only growing with every passing game.

Much of Spurs’ success is down to their smart and progressive recruitment in the transfer market. Several signings made in the past three windows have had huge impacts on the team.

Jose Mourinho and co. will be hoping to continue that transfer success in the January transfer window, which opens three weeks.

With that in mind, we have an update on an emerging defender north of the border, a young Championship starlet and the future of a world star.

Here is a round-up of the latest Tottenham transfer rumours.

Spurs, Newcastle to compete for James Tavernier

Tottenham are reportedly monitoring the progress of Rangers right-back James Tavernier, who has been excellent for Steven Gerrard’s SPL-leading side.

This season, Tavernier has an incredible 16 goals and 11 assists in 25 games in call competitions. And his brilliant form has attracted interest from Premier League teams, including Spurs, per reports.

The Daily Mail credits both Spurs and Newcastle United with interest in a move for Tavernier ahead of the looming January transfer window. West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Everton are also named as potentially interested suitors.

Tavernier has 18 months remaining on his contract, but Spurs signed Matt Doherty to challenge Serge Aurier at right-back in the summer so a move may be unlikely.

Tottenham enter Marcus Forss race

Per reports, Tottenham have entered the race to sign Championship starlet Marcus Forss, who has impressed greatly for Brentford this season.

The 21-year-old has only played 357 Championship minutes so far this season. However, he already has five goals and is widely viewed as the next great young star to come through the Brentford system in the wake of Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins last season.

And Eurosport reports that Spurs are closely monitoring the Finnish striker amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.

The report states that Daniel Levy is keen to build towards the future and does not want to miss out on the vastly talented Forss.

Paulo Dybala latest

Per Todofichajes via the Express, talks have broken down between Juventus and their star attacker Paulo Dybala, whose current contract expires in 2022.

Dybala has been strongly linked with a move to Tottenham before, especially when fellow Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino was in charge in north London.

And now, with his playing time being inconsistent under Andrea Pirlo, having started just four of 10 Serie A games this season, he could be on his way out.

Tottenham may have to add attacking talent to the team if Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius return to their parent clubs at the end of their respective loan periods with the club.

Dybala would be an intriguing option, though his reported £72.5million price tag would be a major hurdle to overcome.
