Tottenham transfer news: Graeme Souness warns Spurs are 'risking everything' unless they back Mauricio Pochettino

Graeme Souness has warned Tottenham that they are “risking everything” by failing to back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market and seek cover for Harry Kane.

The England international is currently absent with an ankle injury, whilst Son Heung-min is away on international duty.

And Dele Alli‘s hamstring injury has further weakened Spurs’ attack, leaving Souness concerned for the club amid Manchester United’s interest in Pochettino.

“This was always going to happen. It could have been so much worse, it could have been a cruciate, out for the season. They are light,” Souness said on Sky Sports.

“The manager has towed the party line. I’ve never been in a dressing room where you didn’t want more players. Players want new players,” Souness said on Sky Sports.

“I think Mauricio has towed the party line beyond the call of duty, they’re risking everything.

“Llorente is an old fashioned player but there are stiffer tests than Fulham coming up. It’s not just about Harry’s goals, he’s a creator as well.”

Souness insists clubs will overcharge Spurs if they do look to strengthen.

“Everyone knows Tottenham’s backs are up against the wall so there will be premiums to pay,” Souness added.

“All the goals have gone out of the team and you cant rely on Harry Winks to score you goals every week.

“You try to manage your assets at this time of the year but they cant do that. It’s a case of put your hand up if you’re fit.”
