Spurs legend Paul Robinson has told Daniel Levy to do everything he can to re-sign Gareth Bale in a swap deal with Christian Eriksen.
Bale has consistently been linked with a return to north London in the past couple of seasons, given his troubles at Real Madrid.
The Welshman has won the Champions League four times since he left Spurs for the Bernabeu in 2013, but has encountered a number of problems in recent campaigns.
Real boss Zinedine Zidane admitted it would be best if he left the club in the summer, with a move to the Chinese Super League mooted and close until the move fell through at the 11th hour.
And this season Bale has drawn the ire of the Madrid supporters after being photographed celebrating Wales' qualification for Euro 2020 with a flag that was emblazoned with the tagline: Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.
Bale earns somewhere in the region of £600,000 a week at Real Madrid and would have to take a pay cut to rejoin Spurs.
But the future of Christian Eriksen being up in the air, with the Dane in the last year of his contract in north London, offers an opportunity to Tottenham.
Eriksen has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu and is set to leave Spurs either this month or in the summer on a free transfer.
And Robinson believes Spurs should ask for Bale to be included in a deal to take Eriksen to Spain.
Speaking to Football Insider , the former keeper said: "I think they should try to get him if they can.
"I think if Eriksen is going to go to Real Madrid, I think that would be the perfect deal for Tottenham and Tottenham supporters.
"He’ll be the perfect fit for Mourinho, he’d give the whole place a lift, rather than have Eriksen who clearly doesn’t want to be there. To get someone of Bale’s quality in, as part of a deal, if that’s possible then it’ll be great."
