Tottenham told to make move for Arsenal transfer target in January

Former Tottenham forward Darren Bent has urged his old club to sign Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona this month.

Spurs have already completed one signing this window after bringing in Gedson Fernandes from Benfica on an initial 18-month loan, with them also having the option to make the deal permanent for around £55million in 2021.

However, rumours have also been circulating in recent weeks linking Jose Mourinho’s side with a potential swoop for the French defender, with him having fallen out of favour at the Camp Nou.

Arsenal have also been linked with the 26-year-old, but Spurs are in desperate need of improving their backline with Jan Vertonghen soon to be departing the club as a free agent in the summer.

And Bent believes Mourinho and Spurs should do everything they can to bring in Umtiti to the club.

“If they can get [Samuel] Umtiti, wow," the former England international told Football Insider.

“He’s big, strong, powerful and good on the ball, and he’s someone [Jose] Mourinho can trust.

“He’s played in big games, won big competitions, obviously the World Cup which is a big one.

“If he’s been offered, that means he may not cost too much, so I’d snap their hand off.”
