Tottenham told to make £200m transfer decision as Jose Mourinho conversation revealed

Tottenham youngsters who could save Levy millions

Tottenham could be forced, like many Premier League clubs, to turn to their youth academy as the purse strings tighten due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so who are the wonderkids who could save Daniel Levy millions in transfer fees?

Levy has already told fans they they need to “wake up” if they believe the transfer market won’t be affected by the global crisis in the next window, paving the way for Spurs to offer more opportunities to their young prodigies.

Alasdair Gold, Tottenham correspondent for football.london, has taken a look at the players who might benefit from this with Joshua Oluwayemi, Dermi Lusala, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, Malachi Fagan-Walcott and J'Neil Bennett all mentioned.

Troy Parrott, much hyped as Spurs’ next great homegrown striker, is also listed as a youngster who could now be given more game time.

Wanyama opens up on Tottenham exit

Victor Wanyama has spoken about the circumstances which led to his departure from Tottenham in the January transfer window, revealing how he told Jose Mourinho that he wanted to leave.

The Kenyan midfielder joined Thierry Henry’s Montreal Impact side in MLS after three-and-a-half years in North London, but injury saw him lose his place in the Spurs' team.

“I have come here to find my happy place again, playing football,” Wanyama told the Daily Mail. “I love Spurs but it was tough. I was a long time injured yet I came back stronger.

“I never gave up, even if I wasn't in the team, but I kept getting told I'd get my chance. What frustrated me was I worked hard to get fit and, if I wasn't selected, I'd ask to play in the under-23s to get sharpness but would be told "no". It was as if I was a fragile egg. So, even when I got some games, it was difficult to be at my peak as I'd had so little minutes in preparation.

“When Jose arrived he was wondering why I wasn't playing. I said ''I want to show what I can do'' and he said I had to wait. I waited for too long so eventually I went to him and said I'd like to go.”

Bent believes Spurs must sell Kane soon

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has added his voice to the chorus of opinions on Harry Kane’s future, insisting the club must sell the forward soon to get 'top dollar' for him.

Kane has admitted that he could leave Spurs if he feels the club is not heading in the right direction, leading to reports that Levy could offer the player to Manchester United for £200 million. Bent believes Kane will have to be sold in the next year or two for Tottenham to receive full market value.

“When you sell Harry Kane, you want to sell him at his absolute peak, and his peak is right now,” Bent told Football Insider. “So for me, if you’re going to sell him, you’ve got to sell him in the next couple of years, and that’s when you’re going to get the most money for him.

“Harry Kane has already said himself that if Spurs haven’t progressed at the rate he wants them to then he’s not scared of leaving. It doesn’t surprise me. You want to go and play for one of the giants in Europe.

“But if you are going to sell him, make sure you sell him at top dollar, and that could be £150-200 million.”
