Tottenham told price for defensive target as former striker insists Mourinho is right for Spurs

Here are your morning headlines for Tuesday, February 16.

Aarons price revealed

Any club wishing to prise Max Aarons away from Championship pace-setters Norwich will have to pay £35m, according to Sky Sports.

The attacking right-back is wanted by European champions Bayern Munich but has previously been a target for Spurs and should be a much-wanted player in the summer window.

Sky Sports claim Bayern have been scouting Aarons for two years and have opened initial negotiations with the Canaries via intermediaries, with Manchester United also interested.

Premier League top scorer

Aarons reportedly saw a deal to move to Barcelona for £20m fall through last summer as the Canaries remained firm over their valuation for the 21-year-old.

Right-back has been something of a problem position for Jose Mourinho this term with the Portuguese unable to decide between Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty as his first-choice, with Japhet Tanganga playing at full-back against Manchester City on Sunday.

Crouch backs Mourinho

Former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch insists Jose Mourinho remains the right manager to take the club forward despite growing unease at the long-term direction of the team.

Spurs were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Manchester City on Sunday representing the huge gulf in class between the Premier League leaders and Mourinho's side who are supposed to be challenging for, at the very least, top four.

Crouch insists that Spurs' best chance of defeating City in April's Carabao Cup final is with Mourinho in charge.

"You have to give him the chance to go to Wembley, surely? Is it really so bad at the minute that you would want another man in charge for the clash with Manchester City?" He wrote in the Mail.

"Surely Jose deserves the opportunity. I've said before how much I like Mourinho. I've always got on well with him, he's always had a good word and spoken positively about me; he's always been prepared to give me advice whenever our paths have crossed.

"But I can't pretend that things are going well for him at the moment when they clearly aren't."

Skipp continues to impress

Social media was full of praise for on-loan Spurs midfielder Oliver Skipp after his performance for Norwich in their 4-1 victory against Jack Clarke's Stoke City.

In the end it was collision and a facial injury that ended his match with nine minutes remaining.

In The Pink Un's player ratings after the game, Skipp was awarded an eight, with the caption: "Took a fearful whack in a near post aerial collision that eventually forced his exit. Farke indicating afterwards it was an eye injury than concussion.

"One superbly timed diving tackle to halt a Stoke counter in front of the dugouts. One raking crossfield ball for Max Aarons to tee up Teemu Pukki."
