Tottenham told how much they will have to pay to complete Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the Saints coming round to the idea of selling their captain.

Yet the Daily Echo report that Southampton are determined to hold out until their asking price for the Danish international is met.

That figure is believed to be £35m, with Hojbjerg's desire to play in the Champions League meaning the Saints believe they are asking a fair price.

The midfielder has just a year left to run on his St Mary's contract, which had led to speculation that Spurs could land him on the cheap.

Yet Southampton are said to still value him at £35m due to the fact he is just 24 years old and is club captain.

Whilst they will sell him if their valuation is met and Hojbjerg refuses to sign a new deal, Saints' preference continues to be getting the midfielder to agree to a new contract.

This will not be easy, however, with Hojbjerg recently revealing to Sport1 in Germany that he wants to play at a higher level.

He said: "I know what I want, the club knows it too.

"I want to play at an even higher level than I am currently.

"The relationship between me and Southampton is fantastic.

"The club gave me the platform to grow. I'm not saying 'Goodbye' and I'm focused on my club, but my goal is very clear: I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

"I gained a lot of experience so that I could move on to develop elsewhere. When I was 23 I became a captain in a Premier League club.

"Now I’m hungry to get to the next level."
