Tottenham told Harry Kane 'will be off' next season if they don't end trophy drought

Harry Kane will look to leave Tottenham next summer should they fail to win any silverware, claims Alan Shearer.

The 26-year-old has been one of the world's leading strikers since rising to prominence under Mauricio Pochettino.

But despite an excellent goalscoring record he is yet to legitimise his talent with a single honour, be that with club or country.

Tottenham are in the midst of a transitional period but the Premier League's record marksman is adamant Kane needs to look elsewhere if success doesn't come soon.

“My guess is, if he doesn’t win anything in the next 12 months then he has to leave,” Shearer told the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast.

“He’ll do another year, I think, and if nothing comes in terms of trophies, then he’ll be off.”

That echoes comments made earlier this season by Rio Ferdinand who felt Kane had to decide what he wants to get out of his career.

He said: "It asks you the question, what are you in the game for? Are you there to stay at one club and be a legend there.

"Or are you in it to win trophies? And then you have to ask yourself do Tottenham look like they are capable of winning trophies? I don't think so."

Shearer also admitted the Tottenham star could break his all-time scoring record, although he needs several things to goes his way.

“It depends on his fitness,” claimed the former Blackburn and Newcastle star. “Where he is and what success he’s had at whatever club he’s at – whether that’s at Spurs or somewhere else.

“It’s going to be hard for him. He’s on 136 and there’s a lot of ‘ifs’ being asked; if he stays fit or if he stays in the Premier League. It’s going to be tough, but it’s going to go one day.”
