Tottenham to wear commemorative shirt during first game at new stadium against Crystal Palace

Tottenham begin life at their state-of-the-art new stadium on Wednesday night and players will don special shirts to commemorate one of the biggest occasions in the club's history.

After receiving the necessary safety certificate from the local council following two successful and memorable test events held in front of increasing attendances, Spurs officially open their 62,062-seater home in front of a sell-out crowd with a ceremony that will be followed by a Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.

Plenty is being done to mark a special evening, including the production of a commemorative shirt to be worn by Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Tottenham's familiar white and navy home tops will be inscribed with the details of the fixture in the central space between their badge and Nike manufacturer's logo beneath the heading 'inaugural match'.

The new stadium opens at 4:45pm GMT on Wednesday - three hours before kick-off - with an opening ceremony still shrouded in secrecy expected to begin at approximately 7:15pm.

The Tottenham Hotspur Marching Band will perform a 45-minute medley of Spurs songs for fans pitch-side from around 5.30pm.
