Tottenham to face Tranmere in FA Cup third round

Tottenham face a trip to League 2 outfit Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup third round.

Tranmere beat Southport in the second round replay on Monday night to set up a clash with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

The tie will be the first of the third round fixtures to be played on Friday, January 4 at 7.45pm and will be shown live on BT Sport 2.

Last season represented a successful cup run for the north London side, reaching the semi-final before losing 2-1 to Manchester United at Wembley.

They did, however, struggle to dispatch lower-league opposition after being taken to a replay by both Newport County and Rochdale.

Tottenham have gone 10 years without a trophy while fierce rivals Arsenal have won the FA Cup three times in the current decade under former boss Arsene Wenger.

Pochettino is also still yet to win his first trophy as a manager and will be hoping to avoid an upset against Tranmere.
