Tottenham tipped to repeat Leicester City's 2015/16 Premier League season

Tim Sherwood has delivered his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur's chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

Monday night's 1-0 win over Burnley extended Spurs' unbeaten run across all competitions to 10 games and moved them to within two points of league leaders Everton as well as Liverpool.

With Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in great form and the likes of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius waiting in the wings, there has been talk of the north London outfit being title challengers.

However, Sherwood can see no reason why his former club can't emulate Leicester City's amazing feat from the 2015/2016 campaign given the attacking options at Jose Mourinho's disposal.

"He’s got the firepower now," Sherwood told the official Premier League website. "At the beginning of the season I would have said to finish in the top four would be a fantastic finish for Tottenham and I think it’s a must.

"Daniel Levy would have said I’ll bring you in Jose to get us into the Champions League.

"So he would have had to finish fourth this year and he needs to.

"But could they go one step further? Could they win? Leicester did it. Why can’t it be Tottenham?

"Leicester did it with less players than Tottenham have now.

"Van Dijk out for Liverpool, Man City in no sort of rhythm, could it be someone from the outside, or out the pack to jump up and cause a surprise – why not Tottenham?"

With that said, Arsenal legend Paul Merson has already dismissed Spurs' chances of being crowned champions because of their defensive frailties.

"I was really disappointed in Tottenham and the way they let it go. A Mourinho team," he told Sky Sports when analysing the 3-3 draw against West Ham United.

"Last week we were talking like this team has got a chance of winning the league. I see enough in that 10 minutes to go as far as to say absolutely zero chance."
