Tottenham tipped for Premier League title challenge and Son Heung-min to rival Harry Kane

Here's all the news from around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Sanchez reveals difficult journey into professional football

Davinson Sanchez has opened up on the sacrifices that were required for him to pursue a career as a professional footballer.

The 24-year-old is now an established defender at Tottenham after joining the club from Ajax in 2017.

But his early days as a young player in Colombia were not so straightforward.

“I started playing football when I was about six and it was sometimes hard to take the bus,” said Sanchez in an interview with the Sun.

“My father used to take me to training and it was not always easy because he also had to bring food to the table. I would train every day after school from 3.30pm until 5.30pm and then I had to take three buses to get home, which would take at least two hours.

“Sometimes I would not get home until 8pm or 9pm — and then I would have to do my school homework. Many times I would fall asleep at the table.

“When I started going to training my father used to take me. But that meant we had to buy two bus tickets and it was not easy for us.”

Sherwood claims Spurs are capable of winning Premier League

Tim Sherwood has insisted Tottenham are amongst the teams that could fight for the Premier League title this season.

Jose Mourinho’s side have started strongly, climbing to fifth with Monday night’s hard-fought win at Burnley.

And Sherwood, citing Leicester’s unexpected title win in 2015/16, claimed there is no reason Tottenham shouldn’t be considered as contenders.

“He’s got the firepower now,” Sherwood told the official Premier League website. “At the beginning of the season I would have said to finish in the top four would be a fantastic finish for Tottenham and I think it’s a must.

“Daniel Levy would have said I’ll bring you in Jose to get us into the Champions League. "So he would have had to finish fourth this year and he needs to.

“But could they go one step further? Could they win? Leicester did it. Why can’t it be Tottenham?

“Leicester did it with less players than Tottenham have now.

“Van Dijk out for Liverpool, Man City in no sort of rhythm, could it be someone from the outside, or out the pack to jump up and cause a surprise – why not Tottenham?”

Redknapp backs Kane and Son to fight for Golden Boot

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has backed Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to be amongst the Premier League’s top scorers this season.

Son took his tally to eight from just six games with an excellent header in Monday night’s 1-0 win at Burnley.

Kane, meanwhile, is on five goals, but has provided a remarkable eight assists having operated in a slightly deeper role.

“When you talk about that front three, Liverpool's front three is incredible, but certainly, them two are just such fantastic players,” Redknapp told TalkSPORT.

“They are such fantastic players, so unselfish, they work for the team and Harry Kane, what a professional.

“A complete all-round footballer and Sonny has just got better and better. As a pair, you can see them both being up there with the leading goalscorers, they will both be very close.”
