Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that their technical director, Franco Baldini, has left the club by mutual consent. The Italian agreed a severance package with the club in August but stayed on to help sell a number of players who were bought on his watch with the proceeds of the £86m sale of Gareth Bale.
“We can confirm that Franco Baldini has left the Club by mutual consent. Franco joined us as Technical Director in June 2013 from AS Roma where he was General Director,” said a club statement. “He leaves us now to spend time outside of club football. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Baldini arrived from Roma in the summer of 2013 – the one in which Bale’s world record switch to Real Madrid was eventually sanctioned – and he oversaw the purchase of seven players for a total of £110.5m, including Érik Lamela, who followed him from Roma for a Tottenham record £30m.
