Tottenham team vs Newcastle confirmed: Hojbjerg starts, Sergio Reguilon on bench, no Dele Alli

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has shuffled his pack for Sunday's Premier League match against Newcastle United.

Mourinho has to plan for three fixtures in five days but also being aware that his team have to beat Newcastle, a team who overcame Spurs at home last season.

The Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Chelsea is just two days away, with the Blues having an extra day to rest, and then another two days after that Spurs host Maccabi Haifa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Europa League play-off round.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was reported to have a minor knock that kept him out of the trip to North Macedonia in the week but is fit to face Newcastle.

Hugo Lloris, Matt Doherty, Eric Dier, Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Kane return to the starting line-up.

Sergio Reguilon managed just two full training sessions with the squad since his return from injury and he is named on the bench.

The Portuguese admitted that the left-back, who sang his initiation song in front of the the team on Saturday night, might not be match fit, but with the run of games this week he will need to play in one or two of them.

Despite featuring on the matchday programme, Gareth Bale remains out until next month while Japhet Tanganga is not yet back from his injury.

Mourinho also explained that Tanguy Ndombele was unlikely to be able to start again just days after impressing in his first 90 minutes of 2020 and the Frenchman is back on the bench after two consecutive starts.
