Tottenham team news: Jan Vertonghen to be rested as Son Heung-min returns against Brighton

Jan Vertonghen will be rested for Tottenham‘s Premier League fixture against Brighton after receiving advice from a head-injury specialist.

The Belgian was withdrawn early during Spurs’ Champions League semi-final against Ajax after colliding with Toby Alderweireld and collapsing with a head injury.

Spurs’ medical staff cleared the centre-back to continue, but Vertonghen remained groggy as he returned to the pitch and subsequently needed help down the tunnel.

Son Heung-min will be able to return though having been unavailable to face Ajax due to suspension, while Vincent Jansses will be in the squad having been ineligible to compete in the Champions League.

Harry Kane (ankle), Serge Aurier, Erik Lamela (both hamstring) and Harry Winks (groin) all miss out.

Provisional squad: Lloris, Gazzaniga, Vorm, Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose, Walker-Peters, Foyth, Sissoko, Moura, Wanyama, Skipp, Eriksen, Alli, Llorente, Son, Janssen.

Spurs are two points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal meaning a win against Brighton would ensure their Champions League qualification.
