Tottenham team news: Eric Dier to miss trip to Liverpool after being ruled out for two weeks

Eric Dier will miss Tottenham’s trip to Liverpool after being ruled out for two weeks, says Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Dier was withdrawn after just 20 minutes of England’s 5-0 win over Czech Republic last week after suffering a groin strain and missed the trip to Montenegro.

Serge Aurier and Harry Winks have also been ruled out of the match.

“He [Dier] has been ruled out,” Pochettino said. “It’s not a big issue but he needs to recover from the problem he suffered against the Czech Republic with the national team.

“One week, 10, days, two weeks. We’ll see how it is going to improve. He was running today but we need to wait for the evolution [of the injury].

“Him, Harry Winks and Serge Aurier are going to be out for the weekend.”

Winks is still recovering from a groin injury himself, while Aurier is being assessed for a hamstring problem on international duty with Ivory Coast.

Tottenham are now embroiled in a struggle to hang on to fourth position having taken just one point from their last four Premier League games.

However, Pochettino claimes the international break actually came at an unfortunate time for Spurs, with the squad ready to bounce back after defeats to Burnley, Chelsea and Southampton.

“It’s a bad thing because after the defeat against Southampton, the last feeling is not good and three weeks without competing becomes a little bit boring,” Pochettino continued.

“But that is the situation, we need to accept it and we cannot change that. I’m happy that we are going to compete Sunday and we are going to start a very busy period until the end. I am happy when we are competing.”
