Tottenham team confirmed vs Watford: Lucas and Skipp return as Winks drops to the bench

Antonio Conte's Tottenham Hotspur start 2022 with a trip to Watford in the Premier League on New Year's Day.

Spurs brought a close to their matches last year with a disappointing 1-1 draw at Southampton, the South Coast side battling for almost an hour with 10 men.

That game came just 46 hours after Tottenham had beaten Crystal Palace, who also had 10 men for the second half.

Now Antonio Conte take his players to Hertfordshire to face Watford, looking to start the new year with a victory.

Next Wednesday brings the Carabao Cup semi-final first at Chelsea, which is followed by the FA Cup third round tie against Morecambe. That game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be a chance for some players to get a rest.

For the trip to Watford, Oliver Skipp returns to the midfield, with Conte deciding to drop Harry Winks back to the bench after another good performance as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg keeps his spot.

Lucas Moura returns to the attacking trio, replacing Dele Alli, while Giovani Lo Celso is back in a matchday squad after recovering from his calf problem.

At the back, Conte has stuck with his tried and tested back three of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Ben Davies.

Here is the team Conte has selected on Saturday afternoon.

Lloris; Sanchez, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Lucas, Kane, Son.

Subs: Gollini, Tanganga, Rodon, Doherty, Winks, Dele, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Gil.
