Tottenham team confirmed vs Chelsea: Joe Rodon starts and Hugo Lloris passed fit after illness

Jose Mourinho has handed young Welsh defender Joe Rodon his first Premier League start in Tottenham Hotspur's derby clash at Chelsea.

The 23-year-old Wales international, signed last month from Swansea in an £11m deal, replaces the injured Toby Alderweireld in the central defence alongside Eric Dier.

It is big match for Rodon to make his full debut with second-placed Tottenham heading to third-placed Chelsea but Mourinho has a history of throwing young players he trusts into big encounters.

The Portuguese handed academy product Japhet Tanganga his Premier League debut against Liverpool last season.

Chelsea v Tottenham: Premier League match preview

Erik Lamela remains out injured with an Achilles problem but Spurs skipper Hugo Lloris has declared himself fit for the match following a bout of illness in the week, which prevented him from being in the squad for Thursday night's Europa League win against Ludogorets.

Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn also missed that game but are back fit, with Bergwijn starting, as he did against Manchester City, and Lo Celso on the quality-packed bench at Stamford Bridge.

Elsewhere Mourinho has returned to the team that beat City last weekend with just the one change of Rodon's full debut.

Here is the team that Mourinho has chosen to face his former side.

Lloris; Aurier, Rodon, Dier, Reguilon; Sissoko, Hojbjerg; Bergwijn, Ndombele, Son; Kane. Subs: Hart, Davies, Sanchez, Lo Celso, Bale, Lucas, Vinicius.
