Tottenham team confirmed vs Burnley: Kane, Romero, and Gil start, Winks and Alli not included

Nuno Espirito Santo has made six changes to his Tottenham team for this evening's Carabao Cup clash away at Burnley.

On the losing side on Sunday as the Lilywhites fell to a 1-0 defeat against West Ham, Spurs will be looking to bounce back immediately with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs.

Always going to change things about with Manchester United to come this weekend, the head coach has replicated what he did in the previous round at Wolves by naming some first-team stars in his team along with those currently on the periphery.

Harry Kane is one of those who remains in the team from the defeat at the London Stadium with Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also included in the starting XI.

Harry Winks and Dele Alli are two of the players not part of the Tottenham squad in Lancashire as Espirito Santo has elected to leave them out despite having the option to name nine on his bench once again.

Speaking ahead of the match, the Portuguese said: “It’s going to be a tough match like we expect because Burnley is a good team but it’s a good chance for us to improve, knowing that the Carabao Cup is an important competition for us.

“We have to go game-by-game and then this game is a final. It’s a chance for us to improve our game, to compete well knowing that we have to manage some situations.

“We have players who need minutes, who deserve minutes, but it’s up to us to manage the situation of the players because what we want is to build a competitive team.

“Focusing only on the match tomorrow, we’re going to face a tough opponent, we know their characteristics – they are very physical, set pieces, aggressive – but at the same time I think we are improving our game.

“The possession has been much better, the dynamics have been much better but they are details that we only can achieve during the competition, so that’s why I tell you it’s very important for us to improve in the match, doing the things that we want, the things that we prepare and putting it on the pitch.”

Here is the Tottenham team Espirito Santo has named to face Burnley:

Tottenham XI: Gollini; Emerson, Romero, Sanchez, Davies; Skipp, Hojbjerg; Gil, Lo Celso, Bergwijn; Kane

Substitutes: Austin, Rodon, Dier, Doherty, Reguilon, Tanganga, Ndombele, Lucas, Son
