Tottenham target Ashley Phillips expected to stay at Blackburn this summer

Staying put: Ashley Phillips

Tottenham are interested in Blackburn Rovers teenager Ashley Phillips but the defender is expected to stay at Ewood Park this summer.

Phillips, 17, has broken into the Rovers team this season, starting three of their first five matches of the campaign, and is out of contract next year.

Spurs were thought to be winning the race to sign the six-foot-four centre-back ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United, and would have likely sent Phillips straight out on loan to continue his development.

However, he is understood to be more likely to remain in Lancashire unless the situation changes, with Rovers keen to tie him to a new deal.

Spurs have already signed teenage left-back Destiny Udogie from Udinese and sent him back on loan to the Italian club for the rest of the season.

They have also strengthened their back line with the signing of Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona but need to boost the homegrown numbers in Antonio Conte's squad.
