Tottenham suffer major injury scare ahead of Liverpool & Man City games - and it's not Eric Dier

Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino are sweating on the fitness of Serge Aurier ahead of next week's Premier League clash against Liverpool.

Aurier was actually left out of the Lilywhites' squad to face Southampton before the international break, although that was more for injury preventative measures than for any current problem.

However, the right-back lasted just 30 minutes of Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations win over Rwanda on Saturday evening as he limped off with a suspected hamstring injury.

If that's the case then he will almost certainly miss the vital game against the Reds at Anfield and will be a doubt for the new stadium opener against Crystal Palace on April 3 as well as the Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie with Manchester City six days later.

Although the good news is that Kieran Trippier is fit after recovering from a muscle strain which stopped him from travelling with the squad to Barcelona for a mid-season warm weather training camp.

Spurs are yet to comment on the nature of Aurier's injury but the scare does come at an important stage of the season as Mauricio Pochettino's side aim to go far in Europe and maintain their top four spot.

Another Spurs star who is a doubt for the trip to Merseyside is defensive midfielder Eric Dier.

The England international picked up a muscular injury in the 5-0 win over the Czech Republic on Friday night and Gareth Southgate confirmed Dier won't feature against Montenegro after returning to Hotspur Way for further treatment.

"I think he will go back to his club. Hopefully not to serious, bit of a muscular injury but he won't be right for our second game," he said (via Sky Sports News).

Aurier has made 17 appearances across all competitions for Spurs so far this season, weighing in with three assists and two goals - which came in a 7-0 thrashing of Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup third round.
