The Nabil Fekir transfer dilemma that could impact Giovani Lo Celso's Tottenham transfer

Tottenham have been handed something of a setback in their attempts to sign Giovani Lo Celso this summer.

The Argentinian international has been linked with a move to N17 for much of the summer transfer window.

He was lined up as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, although the Dane could yet stay at Tottenham, with Real Madrid interest in him cooling of late.

Eriksen was a top target for Madrid, but while he was a favourite of many of the top brass at the Bernabeu, manager Zinedine Zidane made it clear Manchester United’s Paul Pogba was his preferred choice.

Spurs remain interested in the 23-year-old and it looked as though a transfer could edge closer when Real Betis lined up a replacement for him.

Betis appeared to be on the verge of signing wantaway Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir, who had previously been linked with a move to the Premier League.

However, that summer transfer is now off, with Fekir snubbing the Spanish side in favour of a move to Italian side Napoli, according to l'Equipe, as reported by Football Italia.

Reports circulated in France that Fekir had turned his back on Betis as a ‘bigger club’ had made a move for him, and that club is reported to be Napoli, with the Italian side ready to secure a £26million deal.

And that could have a knock-on effect with Spurs.

Betis coach Rubi admitted earlier this week that he would “love to have both of them” referring to Lo Celso and Fekir, and it would surely not be in his thinking to have neither of them at the club next season.
