Tottenham stars ‘happy’ after changes made by Jose Mourinho to training

Jose Mourinho has wasted no time in making his mark on Tottenham ’s players since taking over from Mauricio Pochettino.

The Portuguese boss already has two wins from two after replacing the sacked Argentine last week.

Many of Spurs’ players were left shocked and saddened to see Pochettino go with the 47-year-old guiding them to the Champions League final last term.

But equally they have embraced Mourinho’s new training methods.

According to the Daily Mail, in the latter stages of Pochettino’s tenure, players felt his sessions had become ‘stale’ with training drills ‘mundane’.

Mourinho’s arrival has injected a new lease of life into the sessions though, which has been well received.

The former Manchester United boss has opted to focus on improving areas of defence too with how his players defend in all areas of the pitch forming a bigger part of match preparations.

One key alteration is Mourinho making sessions significantly less intense than Pochettino’s drills and ensuring there is a greater emphasis on recovery after matches that has left the players ‘happy’ with the changes.

Having secured their spot in the Champions League knockout stages with a 4-2 win over Olympiakos on Tuesday night, Spurs now turn their attention to Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth (3pm).

One player who has already seen his efforts in training rewarded is Lucas Moura.

The Champions League hero from last season was deployed in the middle on a number of occasions under Pochettino but Mourinho has opted to play him wide right so far.

"Every player wants to play, it doesn't matter the position," he said.

”But everyone knows I am not a No.9, it is not my best position.

"When Pochettino put me there I always gave my best because for me the most important thing is the team but each coach has one opinion, a different mind.

"Now I feel very good in this position. I always played in this position, I feel good and I am happy."
