Tottenham star Son Heung-Min pictured holding gun in military gear during South Korean national service

The first pictures have emerged of Tottenham star Son Heung-Min in full military gear as he fulfils his national service in South Korea.

The 27-year-old is using football’s coronavirus shutdown to complete a mandatory period of three weeks’ basic training, having been given special exemption from the usual 21-month service after captaining his country to success at the 2018 Asian Games.

The pictures show Son in camouflage attire, most of his face covered by a balaclava. He is wearing a helmet marked with his recruit number, 136, and carrying a gun.

The forward is currently based with the marine corps on Jeju Island, south of the Korean Peninsula. He is due to complete his service on May 10 before flying back to the UK, but is expected to be forced to undergo a 14-day quarantine period.

With the Premier League hoping to get approval from the government to return to training from May 18 as part of ‘Project Restart’, Son could be late re-joining his spurs teammates.
