Tottenham star Heung-min Son reveals soft spot for Manchester United

Tottenham's Heung-min Son has revealed he was a Manchester United fan as a youngster.

The South Korean has gone from strength to strength since swapping the Bundesliga for the England top flight in 2015, scoring 72 goals in 200 Premier League games.

Son was over the summer was rewarded with a new four-year contract at Spurs, making him one of the club's highest earners, and has started this season with two goals in three games before missing the loss at Crystal Palace through injury.

But it was United, not Spurs, whom he most admired while growing up thanks to Old Trafford favourite.

Speaking to Pro:Direct Soccer, Son explained: “[I supported] Manchester United because obviously, Ji-sung [Park] was playing.

“He’s a national hero. In Korea also they would say he has two hearts. He’s a national hero for me. He’s a good friend of mine.

“He offered to the players from South Korea [the way to play], he gave us hope and the opportunity. It’s not easy, you know, he was the first one that played in the Premier League.

“So I was supporting United, but I can’t now!”

Park spent seven years at Old Trafford, winning four Premier League titles and a Champions League.
