Tottenham star Harry Kane warned over 'signature move' by Everton legend

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has been sent a warning over his 'signature move' which is feared could cause serious injury.

The England captain scored his 8th goal in 11 league fixtures as Jose Mourinho's side moved back to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the north London derby.

Kane faced criticism after the game following a challenge on Gunners defender Gabriel Magalhaes when he appeared to make a back for his opponent as they challenged for a header, sending the Frenchman crashing to the ground.

It is not the first time Kane has appeared to adopt this tactic to draw a foul, winning a controversial penalty against Brighton last month by backing in to former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana in a similar manner.

After that match, Kane defended his actions saying: “We play in a game where you get contacted every other minute probably with the opposition defenders.

So unless you’re going to completely take physical contact out of the game, you’re going to get decisions where it’s a 50-50 call and that’s all that was.

“Cheating is when you try deliberately to draw a foul or jump over someone or fall to the ground without any contact.

“It’s clear that my one at the weekend was both of us challenging for the ball and I tried to shield the ball my way and someone came through the back of me.

“It’s part of the game.

“As a striker, when you’re dealing with long balls all the time in the middle of the pitch from goal-kicks, long balls from defenders, you’re getting your body in the way and trying to hold the ball and take pressure off the team.

“The ball went up in the air, I tried to get my body there, Adam tried to jump up and he has come through the back of me before getting the ball and the ref made a decision.

“It’s one of those, 50-50, I’ve had stuff my way in my career, I’ve had those decisions not go my way.

“If that was just from a goal-kick, I don’t think there’s any debate at all.

“I’m not going to cry if I don’t get it, I’m not going to go over the top if I do get it."

Kane was also involved in a similar incident in Spurs' 3-3 draw with West Ham earlier in the season and, sharing a tweet with a video compilation of what was described as the Spurs' striker's 'signature' move, former Everton captain said: "He needs to stop this before he seriously injures someone."

Kane and Spurs are next due to be in action when they play away at Crystal Palace next Sunday before they travel to play Liverpool at Anfield in a top-of-the-table clash the following Wednesday.
