Tottenham star Harry Kane wants return to group training next week

Harry Kane has revealed he wants to return to group training next week after all Tottenham players and staff tested negative on Monday.

Premier League clubs are set to vote on safety protocols over a return to group sessions at Monday's shareholders' meeting.

A number of high-profile players – the latest Watford's Troy Deeney – have expressed concerns about resuming contact so soon but Kane says a majority are eager to resume the season as soon as possible.

“The majority of the players are looking forward to playing again whenever it’s possible, but we want it to be as safe as well,” said the England captain. “We had tests on Monday, all the [Spurs] players and staff had tests and everyone came back negative, which was great.

“I am happy to start training in small groups if that is allowed and just trying to get back to some normality as soon as possible. Everyone is different and has their own personal view.”

Kane was speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, after agreeing an unprecedented deal to become Leyton Orient’s shirt sponsor for next season.

The League Two club’s home shirt will carry a message of thanks to ‘frontline heroes’ and raise money for the local NHS Trust, while the second and third-strip shirts will provide funds for the Haven House and Mind charities respectively.

Kane has paid the club, for whom he made his professional debut while on loan, an undisclosed figure — believed to be around £100,000 — while 10 per cent of the proceeds of each shirt sold will go the charities. “I fell in love with the idea straight away,” said Kane. “Charities have taken a hit and it’s great for Orient.”

All League Two clubs are expected to agree to end the regular season in a crunch conference call today, while League One clubs were due to hold talks with the EFL this morning, with the situation significantly more fraught in the third-tier. While most are thought to favour ending the season and deciding the table on a points-per-game basis, six play-off contenders are lobbying the EFL to complete the campaign.
