Tottenham star Alex Morgan getting up to speed after long-awaited WSL debut against Reading

Alex Morgan promised more to come after finally making her debut for Tottenham Women on Saturday.

Morgan came off the bench for the final 20 minutes to play for the first time in more than a year in the 1-1 WSL draw with Reading at The Hive.

The USA superstar and two-time World Cup winner joined the club six weeks ago but is still working her way back to fitness following the birth of her six-month-old daughter, Charlie, who was watching from the stands in full Spurs kit.

“I felt like there were definitely a lot more sprints than in training," Morgan said afterwards. "I’ll get used to it pretty quickly.

"I think my fitness, it’s getting back there, it’s just going to take a little bit of time – obviously with a matter of changing direction, sprints and everything, I’ve just got to get minutes to get game fit."

Tottenham have yet to win a game in the WSL so far this season, collecting just two points from their opening six matches.

They travel to face bottom club Bristol City next weekend.
