Tottenham sent Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer message by Southampton chief executive

Southampton chief executive officer Martin Semmens has revealed that the St Mary's club have yet receive a suitable offer for Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.

The midfield-enforcer, who would have held ambitions to have represented Denmark at this summer's European Championships had they not be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, has been attracting interest from a whole host of clubs in recent months, including Spurs.

Last week, a report by talkSPORT claimed that Everton, who rounded off their 2019/20 Premier League campaign with a 3-1 home defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, had struck a deal with the Saints to sign the 24-year-old.

However, Southampton have now responded by insisting that they have yet to receive a suitable offer for the midfielder that they are willing to let go for the right price, even though Semmens has not denied that Everton had made an approach for the Danish international.

"Pierre's always said to us that he will be professional and do a great job every day that he is here, and he's done that," said Semmens. "He's played, he's trained, he's been great.

"But on top of that, he's said all along that he feels that if given an opportunity he wants to play in the Champions League, if that opportunity came. And we've kind of respected that and left that door open.

"We have had some offers from teams that have been in the latter stages of the Premier League recently, some pretty good offers, ones that we probably would be open-minded to, but at the moment we don't have the offers from the clubs that seem to be the ones that are all over social media saying Pierre's going to.

"In reality from our perspective on Pierre, if he wants to move to another club and that club has the money and the ability to buy him, then we will have that discussion.

"But at this point, we have not received an offer like that."

Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho, who ensured his side will play in the Europa League next season after guiding them to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, is a big fan of Hojbjerg and wants to add the former Schalke man to his squad for next season, with the Portuguese chief eager to bolster his squad.
