Tottenham seek legal advice over Europa Conference League exit as Davinson Sanchez slams ‘unfair’ Uefa ruling

Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez says that UEFA's decision to throw the club out of the Europa Conference League is "completely unfair".

Spurs are seeking legal advice after UEFA awarded Rennes a 3-0 win for their final group match, which was called off earlier this month following a Covid-19 outbreak at the London club.

Spurs desperately tried to find a new date for the fixture but, following talks with both clubs, UEFA was unable to reschedule before the December 31 deadline.

Spurs will not appeal the decision in court but are exploring legal action over lost earnings – although the prospect is considered unlikely by club sources.

Centre-half Sanchez told Sky Sports: "Having a right to play, it's not fair on us [for UEFA] to say, 'OK you're out of the competition', knowing that we didn't play the game because of the Covid cases.

"We prepared for the game, we were focussed, we were doing everything to play at our ground. The night before we got the news the game was not going to happen. I think it's unfair for us as a club and our fans.

"We struggled playing away from home but we still had a chance to win the competition, so it's completely unfair."

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could return for tomorrow's Carabao Cup quarter-final at home to West Ham with the Dane training this week.
