Tottenham scout Jeff Vetere has resigned from his post after giving a candid interview to South American TV in which he revealed the club's transfer targets, reportedly enraging his employers.
Vetere has previously worked for Real Madrid, Newcastle, West Ham, Aston Villa and Charlton but had been out of work since being sacked as Birmingham's director of football in 2018.
He joined Spurs in September, reportedly thanks to his close relationship with the club's managing director Fabio Paratici.
Vetere gave a sit-down interview to Win Sports TV during a visit to Colombia and named Kevin Mier, a 22-year-old goalkeeper with Nacional, as a Spurs target.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs were so unimpressed with the interview, they called a meeting with Vetere to discuss his probationary period but he resigned before the process was completed. Asked to comment, Spurs confirmed only that Vetere had stepped down.
Speaking about Mier, Vetere said: "I see a goalkeeper who does not lack anything to cross the pond. We are looking because it is our task to see who the best youngsters are for international football.
"Taking advantage of my stay in Colombia, I took the opportunity to go there (Nacional) and meet a goalkeeper who is important to me.
"I think he’s going to play for the national side soon. He has things, for me, they are not normal for a boy of his age. I was surprised by his confidence and his handling of the ball."
