Tottenham's Tanguy Ndombele responds following damning Jose Mourinho criticism

Tanguy Nbombele has brushed off recent criticism from Jose Mourinho as he prepares for Tottenham's clash with Red Bull Leipzig on Tuesday.

The midfielder was blasted by his manager following Spurs' 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday.

Mourinho hauled Ndombele off at half-time in the Premier League fixture, and laid into him after the final whistle.

The Spurs boss was supported for his comments by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who branded Nbombele a "disgrace".

But Ndobele has seemingly not been affected by the reprovals, and posted a positive response on his Instagram account.

Alongside a picture of him in training with Serge Aurier, Ndombele wrote: "Keep The Smile @championsleague #COYS."

Any hopes Ndombele had of featuring in the second leg of Spurs last-16 tie look to have been dashed by his first-half horror show at Turf Moor.

Mourinho fumed: "We didn't have a midfield in the first half. I am not going to run away. I have to say Tanguy has had enough time to come to a different level.

"I know the Premier League is very difficult, I know that some players take a long time. But a player with his potential, his responsibility, he has to give us more."

Analysing Ndombele's performance on Monday Night Football , Carragher concurred.

"His performance was nothing short of a disgrace in terms of his effort off the ball," he said.

"On the ball he was actually very good, but off the ball when I watched the game you can't believe what you're seeing."

It was not the first time Ndombele has been slammed by his boss in public, which caused some discussion between Carragher and guest pundit Sven-Goran Eriksson.

"Yes it was (justified)," Carragher added. "Again that is another debate and Sven is spot on that that will be the debate - do you do it in public or in private?"
