Tottenham's stance on Nuno Espirito Santo as next manager revealed after surprise announcement

Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to become the next Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The Portuguese tactician is now an odds-on favourite to fill the void left by compatriot Jose Mourinho, who was sacked after just 17 months in charge of the north London outfit.

Of course, this is after a rather surprise announcement by Wolves regarding the future of Espirito Santo.

Ahead of their final game of the Premier League season against Manchester United, it was confirmed that it will be the last time he manages Wolves after agreeing to leave by mutual consent.

"Since the first day we arrived at Compton [training ground], our ambition was to make a positive change and push this football club forward," Nuno said.

"I am proud to say that we did that every single day.

"We achieved our goals, we did it with passion and we did it together.

"Sunday will be a very emotional day but I am so happy that the fans will be back in Molineux and we can share one last special moment together, as one pack."

As a result, Nuno will soon be a free agent which means any club wishing to appoint him won't have to negotiate a fee with Wolves.

But is Nuno bound for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

Well, to put it kindly, the answer is no.

Football.london previously reported that he was not in contention and understand that remains the case as Daniel Levy continues his search.

In fact, the chairman has already outlined what he wants from the club's next head coach as his search to appoint Mourinho's successor rumbles on.

"We shall focus on the recruitment of a new Head Coach," Levy said in a statement earlier in the week.

"We are acutely aware of the need to select someone whose values reflect those of our great Club and return to playing football with the style for which we are known – free-flowing, attacking and entertaining – whilst continuing to embrace our desire to see young players flourish from our Academy alongside experienced talent."
