Tottenham's stance on Jesse Lingard and Wout Weghorst transfers as Danny Ings rumours persist

Tottenham have been linked with a number of players in the current transfer window, with Jose Mourinho targeting more arrivals after the signings of Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

The duo's moves from Real Madrid were confirmed on Saturday afternoon, and Mourinho insisted following the 5-2 win over Southampton that he is still keen on signing a striker before the deadline in two weeks.

Spurs' top targets for the role are Saints striker Danny Ings and Torino forward Andrea Belotti.

However, football.london understands that any deal for one of those strikers will likely be out of reach for Spurs financially in this transfer window.

Spurs would also face difficulties in persuading either of the attackers to move to North London due to the lack of available minutes any striker would play behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.

Spurs have made enquiries about a number of other traditional target men. However, Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst is not one of those names.

football.london understands that rumours linking Spurs with a £27million move for the 28-year-old are wide of the mark.

Rumours have linked Mourinho with a shock reunion with Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard, but football.london understands Spurs have no interest in the 27-year-old.

Lingard has dropped down the pecking order at United, and was left out of the squad entirely for the home defeat against Crystal Palace at the weekend, despite making an appearance in United's only pre-season encounter against Aston Villa the week before.

Rumours have stated that Spurs were considering a move for Lingard, but it would be dependent on a transfer for Dele Alli taking place first.

Dele was also left out of the squad for Tottenham's 5-2 win over Southampton this weekend, with Mourinho

"I'm not responsible for the market," he told reporters when asked whether Dele could be leaving the club. "I don't know how to answer your question in relation to that.

"The only thing I can say is that I left eight players behind. They stayed and trained this morning because they are a big group and Dele is amongst these players.

"You could see our team. I cannot start with all of them and I cannot have a bench without defenders or midfielders. In the same way the squad is a puzzle, the bench is also a little puzzle.

"So to have on the bench Toby and Serge, and Moussa and Gio, and Lamela, and Bergwijn. I cannot have on the bench four wingers or three wingers and a No 10, and then no defenders.

"Everything is a puzzle so in these matches that he stayed out, probably Tuesday he will play and others he will stay out."
