Tottenham's Son Heung-min makes extraordinary Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne admission

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has claimed that he is not among the Premier League's best players, despite his blistering form in recent seasons.

The Spurs attacking midfielder has firmly established himself as one of the top flight's elite players after reaching double figures for league goals in each of the last four seasons.

Son has also started the current campaign in fine fashion, scoring eight goals in eight appearances, helping Spurs to second in the table.

But despite his achievements at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Son insists he has never considered himself on par with the likes of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah or Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne, who have lifted two of the last three PFA Player of the Year awards.

Jose Mourinho press conference following 1-0 win vs West Brom

"I've never once thought I am among the best players in the Premier League," Son said in an interview with the Korea Football Association (KFA) YouTube channel.

"Honestly, I’ve never thought that for a moment. I have always tried to do my best for Tottenham and in the national team and try to show all my abilities.

"It feels different to play for the national team and for Spurs. We will prepare well so that we can play as well as we can for the fans."

Son's form has seen seen Tottenham reportedly preparing a new £200,000-a-week contract, that would see the South Korean commit his long-term future to the club.

And Mourinho recently confirmed that he was confident his forward would put pen to paper “sooner or later”.

“I would love [him to sign a new contract],” Mourinho said. “Son has three years of contract, so it’s not like we’re in an extreme situation of everybody being worried.

"It’s more that Son loves it here, I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time.

“Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture. It’s normal the club tries to go from three years to four or five or six, I don’t know. It’s normal.

“But it’s a very calm situation because Sonny has three more years of contract.

But I wish [for him to get a new contract]. He deserves one.

"The club knows that and sooner or later, without any pressure, they will arrive into a decision.”
