Tottenham defender Serge Aurier was arrested on suspicion of assault on Saturday night after an alleged incident with his his girlfriend at his Hertfordshire home.

Aurier was held by police only hours before Spurs were beaten by Manchester United at Wembley on Sunday, a match in which he played no part, after the incident with his partner, Haitian TV personality Hencha Voigt.

The 26-year-old full-back denied assaulting Voigt and was released without charge.

A statement by Hertfordshire Police read: “A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of ABH. He has been released with no further action.”

A Tottenham spokesman confirmed: “We are aware of an incident concerning Serge Aurier this weekend. The player was released without charge.”

Aurier, an Ivory Coast international, lives with the 31-year-old Voigt and their five-month old daughter in Hertfordshire.
