Tottenham's rivals can solve Jose Mourinho transfer problem as fans fume over Callum Wilson

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur digest for Monday, September 7.

Watford talking points

Tottenham were missing 12 players to international duty at Vicarage Road and another four to unconfirmed absences if you include Danny Rose.

Yet without 16 players, the starting XI still had enough attacking talent in it in Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela to create far more than it did on the day.

All four players got 90 minutes under their belt against a Watford team that kept the tempo high for a friendly and kept catching Spurs on the break but, on the whole, the visitors did not show enough creativity.

After very bright and promising link-up play against Ipswich and Reading, the matches against Birmingham and Watford have brought turgid attacking displays with little risk or invention in the team's passing and movement.

Tottenham can turn to Premier League rivals to finally solve Jose Mourinho's biggest problem

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have seen something rather unfamiliar in this transfer window.

For all of the club’s relative success under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs had developed a reputation as very slow in negotiating transfers and getting deals over the line.

However, the recent arrival of Matt Doherty stands as the club’s third signing of the summer after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart also joined the club.

Such quick action in the window may be slightly unfamiliar for Spurs fans, but it nonetheless shows a determination from Jose Mourinho and his staff to ensure they are ready for a hectic 2020/21 schedule.

Fans fume over Wilson development

Harry Kane remains Tottenham's main striker, with Son Heung-min able to deputise in that position if need be.

However, injuries to both players last season led to Spurs having to play without a natural striker for a number of weeks.

That has caused fans to call out for the club to invest in the striking department.

Tottenham have been linked with a potential loan move for Watford man Troy Deeney as well as a move for relegated Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson. Read more here.
