Tottenham captain and World Cup winner Hugo Lloris has been charged with drink driving, police have confirmed.
The Frenchman failed a roadside breathalyser test in central London, at around 2.30am, and was subsequently taken to Charing Cross Police Station before later being released on bail.
A Metropolitan Police statement read: “A man has been charged following a routine patrol stop in Gloucester Place, W1.
“Hugo Lloris, 31, of East Finchley, was charged with drink driving on Friday, 24 August.
“He has been bailed to return to Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 11 September.”
It's currently unclear whether the goalkeeper, who skippered France to World Cup glory this summer, will feature in Mauricio Pochettino's matchday squad for the side's Monday night clash against Manchester United.
Addressing the incident, Tottenham said in a statement: "The Club takes matters such as this extremely seriously and it will be dealt with internally.”
Spurs take on United at Old Trafford as they bid to maintain their winning start to the season, having recorded back-to-back wins against Newcastle and Fulham.
Lloris has been with Tottenham since 2012 and has made 254 appearances for the north London club.
