Tottenham's Heung-min Son makes promise to Spurs fans for 2019-20

Heung-min Son has made a promise to Tottenham fans after they narrowly missed out on winning the Champions League last season.

The South Korea international was a key figure for Spurs last term as they memorably made it all the way to the final of Europe's elite club competition, before losing 2-0 to Premier League rivals Liverpool in Madrid.

Had the north Londoners triumphed, it would have been a first trophy for the club since they won the League Cup in 2008.

Though delighted to have made the final, there would have been some disappointment for Tottenham that they were unable to end their long wait for a trophy.

But speaking to Spurs' website , Son revealed that coming so close to winning silverware will only spur Mauricio Pochettino's men on to greater things next term.

“It was a crazy season, some incredible moments, of course some disappointments as well,” said the 26-year-old.

“It was a tough schedule and we had some great results. We finished top four again and reached the Champions League Final. Obviously, we were disappointed to lose the final, but we can be very proud.

“The players learned so much from last season and we will want more next season – and I believe we have a good chance to do something. I’m looking forward to coming back stronger.”

All Spurs players are currently on a break ahead of returning to pre-season training later in the summer, and Son probably deserves a rest more than most.

After featuring for his country at the World Cup last summer, Son went on to feature for South Korea as they triumphed at the Asian Games last September, before also being a part of their squad at the AFC Asian Cup in the UAE in January.

The 26-year-old is likely to have enjoyed the break after such a hectic season, but seems desperate to help Tottenham finally end their wait for a trophy next term.
