Tottenham's Harry Kane posts statement after Europa League exit and Arsenal defeat

Tottenham Hotspur captain Harry Kane says no words can atone for the back-to-back defeats his side have suffered over the past week.

Despite taking the lead in the North London Derby through Erik Lamela, Spurs went on to lose the clash to bitter rivals Arsenal after Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette wrapped up all three points for Mikel Arteta and Co.

It was a blow to Jose Mourinho 's men who were on a five-game winning streak prior to the clash at the Emirates.

But his week got worse on Thursday as Spurs bottled a brilliant chance to make it through to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Taking a 2-0 lead to Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb staged a remarkable second tie turnaround thanks to a stunning Mislav Orsic hat-trick.

Along with the Carabao Cup final, the Europa League presented Spurs with another chance to win silverware this season. Something the club hasn't achieved since 2008 - when they won the Carling Cup under Juande Ramos.

The double blow has led to widespread speculation over Jose Mourinho's future at the club. And taking his time to comment on the appalling week at the club, captain Kane has now spoken out.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Kane posted a dejected picture of himself with the caption: "Time to bounce back tomorrow after a very disappointing week. No words will atone for the last 2 games, we just have to show our response on the pitch!"

Spurs return to league action against Aston Villa on Sunday, and Jose Mourinho has urged his side to go back to basics.

“Obviously, what do I want against Aston Villa? I want all the ingredients that I told to some of the previous questions," said the Spurs boss.

“They are what I consider the basics of an honest professional. It doesn’t matter about the area. At the moment we’re speaking about football but we could be speaking about any other area in society.

“The basics of any job is honesty, the commitment, the desire, the respect for the people who require you to do a good work. That’s what I expect to have every day, every match.”
