Eric Dier faces no further action over fan showdown as police investigation concluded

Tottenham's Eric Dier will face no further action after he confronted a fan in the stands after his side's FA Cup defeat to Norwich.

Police concluded their investigation and have decided that the Englishman will not be charged.

Dier could still face a ban from the footballing authorities however for his behaviour.

The 26-year-old responded after he saw his brother being approached by a fan after the match in north London.

Dier had to be restrained by stewards but footage of the incident went viral.

The Metropolitan Police were forced to look into the incident but after review have said: "The investigation concluded with no further action.”

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho said that his player had acted in a way that "professionals cannot" but insisted he would side with Dier.

The Portuguese boss said: "I think Eric Dier did something that we professionals cannot do but in these circumstances every one of us would do.

Because when somebody insults you and your family is there and you get involved with the person that is insulting you, in this case a younger brother, I think Eric did what we professional we cannot do.

But I repeat, probably everyone of us would do. I repeat, we professionals we cannot do, but I repeat I am with the player and I understand the player."

Mourinho also said at the he would not approve had the club reprimanded Dier - which they opted not to do.

"If the club does that (give disciplinary action) I will not agree, but he did wrong," he added.
