Tottenham's best player in October revealed - and it's not Harry Kane

Tottenham have made a decent start to their Premier League season.

Jose Mourinho 's men have won four of their opening seven matches to earn third place in the table, with the highlight being last month's sensational 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United.

Their latest victims, Brighton and Hove Albion, were sunk by new signing Gareth Bale 's header with less than twenty minutes remaining on Sunday, after Tariq Lamptey had equalised following Harry Kane 's opener for the hosts.

The latter has enjoyed a stellar season so far, scoring 11 times and creating nine goals in just 12 appearances in all competitions.

Surprisingly, however, the England skipper was not chosen by fans as Tottenham 's most impressive player in October.

Instead, supporters have decided that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the club's star man last month.

football.london asked supporters to vote for their player of the month, and the former Saints man came out on top of the pile with 37.2% of the vote.

He saw off competition from Son Heung-min (28.4%), Kane (27.4%), Sergio Reguilon (3.7%) and Tanguy Ndombele (3.3%) to scoop the title.

Hojbjerg has settled in brilliantly since his £15 million move in the summer, with his strong defensive performances catching the eye.

He has provided a physical presence and helps to protect the back line which has proved useful for Spurs this season.

They have conceded the same number of Premier League goals as this time last campaign but have scored more, with Hojbjerg's presence sitting deep allowing attackers to play with confidence.

Moussa Sissoko praised his impact earlier this week, describing the Dane as a 'great midfield player'.

"I think since he came, since his first game, he’s shown all of his quality.," he said. "He brings a lot of energy to the team.

"He’s a great midfield player. Of course he’s young, but he also has some experience because he’s been playing in a few teams before.

“To play with him of course is nice. Every player will play with him, like when Winksy played a few games with him he was very happy to play with him. That’s good.

“Hopefully he’s going to keep going in that way and keep bringing all of his energy and his ability on the pitch, even with the ball he’s a good footballer.”
