Tottenham's £62m transfer boost as Manchester United star makes Jose Mourinho statement

Aurier and Sissoko release statement over lockdown breach

Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko have released a statement apologising after they breached lockdown rules.

The former posted a video on Instagram of him and Sissoko sitting and training together.

A club spokesman had told football.london that the club would "be speaking to both players involved” and now the duo have released the following joint statement.

“We recognise that as professional footballers we have a responsibility to be role models, particularly during this uncertain period that everyone around the world is facing," it read.

"We wish to apologise for not setting the right example here. We must all respect the government advice to minimise the number of lives lost during this pandemic.

"We cannot thank NHS staff enough for their tireless work at this time and we shall both be making a financial donation to show our support for their efforts."

Rashford message should encourage Ndombele

Marcus Rashford has spoken of his “tough period” under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, offering some hope for Spurs midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman was hauled off at half-time during a 1-1 draw at Burnley last month having struggled to establish himself since arriving from Lyon in the summer.

But he might look towards Rashford’s experiences for encouragement.

"It was tough but I think when you look back on it in five or six years, they're the moments that give you that mental toughness," the Manchester United man told the Official UTD Podcast.

"As an all-round player I've improved a lot and a lot of it is down to those two years under Jose.

"We had ups and downs. When I look back at it, it was a tough period but definitely a period that made me a better player."

UEFA release statement on plans for resuming season

UEFA have confirmed that their aim is to finish domestic and cup competitions across Europe as the coronavirus crisis continues.

Football across the continent has been postponed and as yet there is no plan in place to restart.

In a statement, the European governing body confirmed that a decision would not be made until after a meeting of the Executive Committee on Thursday.

"UEFA today met its 55 member associations via video conference and presented an update of the options being looked into by the two working groups that were created mid-March," the statement read.

"A variety of calendar options were presented covering both national team and club competition matches.

"The funding of National Associations through UEFA’s HatTrick programme was also discussed with UEFA reiterating its commitment to meeting the payments to member associations as planned.

"There was a strong recommendation given to finish domestic top division and cup competitions, but some special cases will be heard once guidelines concerning participation to European competitions - in case of a cancelled league - have been developed.

"Any decisions on the above topics would be announced after the UEFA Executive Committee on Thursday."
