Man City chase Giovani Lo Celso as Spurs consider Andre Gomes and Tanguy Ndombele transfer links

Tottenham Hotspur face a battle to secure the services of Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, as Manchester City are monitoring the player’s situation.

The 23-year-old has attracted a €60million (£52.8m) from Mauricio Pochettino’s side but, as reported by our sister site MEN Sport , that bid is believed to have been rejected by the La Liga side.

Betis, who finished tenth-place in the league this season and subsequently missed out on European football next term, believe they can secure a higher fee for the Argentina international.

Atletico Madrid are also vying for his signature and Premier League champions City are assessing the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder’s performances for Argentina at the Copa America.

Lo Celso scored 16 goals in 46 appearances for Betis last season, which saw the Seville outfit exercise their option to make his loan stint at the club permanent at the end of the campaign.

Capped 12 times by Argentina, the attacking midfielder is open to a move to the Premier League as he seeks Champions League football, and Pep Guardiola sees Lo Celso as a potential candidate to carry the midfield mantle after 33-year-old David Silva.

For Tottenham, Lo Celso may be seen as an heir to Christian Eriksen in north London amidst continued speculation that La Liga giants Real Madrid will swoop for the Denmark international this summer.

Spurs are also understood to be eyeing Lyon ace Tanguy Ndombele as a target following his impressive performances in the Champions League, while Barcelona's Andre Gomes is also on their sights after excelling during his loan stint with Everton.
