Tottenham release statement condemning George Galloway over "blatant anti-Semitism"

Tottenham have have condemned comments made by George Galloway after the club's Champions League final defeat by Liverpool, accusing the former MP of "blatant anti-semitism".

The Premier League club were responding to a tweet sent by Galloway after Saturday night's Madrid showpiece, which saw Jurgen Klopp's side win 2-0 to lift the European trophy for the sixth time.

The 64-year-old's message congratulated Liverpool for their victory but also celebrated that there would be "no Israel flags on the cup."

Galloway's tweet read: "Congratulations to the great people of Liverpool to the memory of the socialist miner Bill Shankley [sic] to the fallen 96 to those who fought for justice for them and to the Liverpool dockers. No Israel flags on the Cup!'"

In response to the tweet, Spurs labelled the comments as "astounding" and accused Galloway of "blatant anti-semitism".

A statement issued to Sky Sports News on Sunday night read: "It's astounding in this day and age to read such blatant antisemitism published on a social platform by someone who is still afforded air time on a radio station on which he has previously broken broadcast impartiality rules."

A former member of the Labour Party, Galloway first became an MP in 1987 for the constituency of Glasgow Hillhead, later Glasgow Kelvin.

Following his removal from the Labour Party in 2003, he went on to join the Respect Party and held the position of MP for Bethnal Green and Bow (2005-2010) before representing Bradford West from 2012-2015.

He also served as a leader of the Respect Party until it dissolved in 2016 and now has his own show on TalkRadio called "The Mother of all Talkshows."
