Tottenham receive huge Ryan Fraser transfer boost amid Bournemouth contract extension talk

Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser is set to turn down a short-term contract extension.

According to the Sun, Fraser will not join some of his Cherries teammates in signing a deal that would keep him at the club until the end of the season amid links with Tottenham Hotspur.

Clubs are having to offer out-of-contract players short-term deals to make sure they can plan beyond June 30 - when contracts expire - and see the season out.

Bournemouth have a number of players out of contract with Charlie Daniels, Artur Boruc, Andrew Surman and Simon Francis all set to agree to play until the end of the season.

But according to reports, Fraser will not do the same as he continues to be linked with Tottenham.

Spurs could sign the 26-year-old winger for free this summer and it seems Fraser doesn't want to risk scuppering a potential big move by picking up an injury by playing on beyond his current contract.

That means he could join Tottenham as early as July 1, but he would not be able to play due to Premier League registration rules.

It could still be some boost for Spurs, but it's quite the opposite for Bournemouth who sit in a precarious position ahead of the Premier League's restart.

Eddie Howe's men are 18th and goal difference from safety with eight games remaining.

They now face finishing the season without their star winger, though the Scot has only scored once and assisted four times in what has been a difficult season for Bournemouth.
