Tottenham re-launch transfer mission for PSG star previously linked to Arsenal and Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi.

The Argentine was on Spurs’ radar just over two years ago as Mauricio Pochettino tried to bring him to north London, but a deal never materialised.

Rather ironically, the 28-year-old is now struggling for game time at PSG under Pochettino - although that is quite understandable given the summer addition of Lionel Messi, who has formed a formidable front three with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Icardi scored 124 goals in just 219 games whilst at Inter Milan and has found the net on 36 occasions for PSG in just over 70 outings for the club. Statistically at least, he is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.

Because of that impressive record, he’s not going to be short of interest in the coming months, as he hasn’t been in the past, either.

Spurs’ closest rivals Arsenal were monitoring his situation in 2020, whilst ahead of the 2020/21 season, Frank Lampard was also tempted by the possibility of persuading Icardi to move to Stamford Bridge.

Now, according to Calciomercato, Tottenham and Juventus want to sign the Argentine, who could leave PSG in search of more regular minutes.

That means that Spurs’ Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, may have to go toe-to-toe with his previous employers should the Argentine be interested in returning to the Serie A.

If reports are to be believed, Tottenham and Paratici will find it difficult to sign Icardi, but the Italian enjoyed a good summer of negotiation in the transfer market, and he’ll be looking to help add depth to Spurs’ squad sooner rather than later.
